1800's Ship Painting

I love anything connected to the sea or beach. I found this painting many years ago at an auction and fell in love with it. The blue sky and the green blue sea set my heart afluttering. It is dated 1869 on the back and is signed Colter.
You can see by the crazing of the paint and the old frame that it is very old. I can imagine it having hung above an old fireplace many years ago which I think cause a lot of the crazing.
I am linking this post to Smiling Sally for Blue Monday.

  7. Paintings are great today and I have several. However, when this was done, it just seems different. I have seen a scene similar to that one. You have a great treasure in it.

  9. Very nice sea painting! Ships are one of my favs too. I like your shell candlesticks. Have you seen how expensive they are to buy? This is a good solution!

  10. That's a very pretty picture! You should have that appraised to see if it really is that old. A friend of mine had an old picture she thought was old. After some research and an appraisal, she found out it was indeed old and not a new print. Her painting was worth a few hundred dollars.
