OLD SUITCASE LOVE!!!

I am linking this up with
http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ for show and tell Friday and http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/ for vintage thingie thursday.
I love old suitcases and have had quite a few over the years. I gave 3 to my daughter and just kept the brown tweed ones. I got them at an auction a while back for $5.00 for both of them. I had not displayed them because I was waiting to find a small one to go on top of them so they would look finished. I went to a yardsale a couple of weeks ago and there was an open suitcase with packets of vintage jewelry in it. Most of the jewelry was priced too high, but there were packages of buttons that were real cheap, so I was picking out the packets of buttons. The gentleman came over and said his wife said if I would take all of the packets I could have the suitcase they were in all for $10.00. I looked around at his wife to make sure that this was for real because you know how men are sometimes about getting rid of stuff and she said yes I could have it all for $10.00. I closed the suitcase, handed them the $10.00 and ran to the car before they changed their mind. It was the perfect fit for the top suitcase I was needing. Don't you just love yardsales.

  1. You were very lucky to find all that and it to be what you wanted. The old jewelry was probably worth more than $10. You got a real deal.

  3. Deal of the century! I just love how people have different values for their stuff. They probably thought you were nutty for paying "that much" for the stuff.

  9. They look great! I collect lots of "stuff" for my store. I shop all the time for it. Suitcases have always been on my list of things to find for me - and wouldn't you know, in the 5 years I have been doing this - I haven't found 1 good suitcase. You are a very lucky lady - for many reasons.

  15. I love old suitcases like that. The flat tops make them easy to stack, unlike the newer types.

  16. There can be some amazing deals at yard sales when people are not emotionally attached to what they are selling. Great set of suitcases.

  31. Amazing finds, what a great story. It reminds me of that Ikea sale commercial where the woman looks at her receipt and thinks they made a mistake so she wants to get out of there quickly - "Start the car! Start the car!" I'd been wanting some of these, too and just found two of them curbside - the day after a garage sale, I think.
